News Details (Posted: November 6, 2006):

Emerald Ash Borer Alert

Full Description:

The emerald ash borer, a small, metallic-green beetle native to Asia, burrows into the bark of ash trees, starves and eventually kills them.

The beetle may not pose any direct risk to public health but it does threaten the tree population and will eventually have an adverse effect on us. As a fact, since the emerald ash borer was first confirmed in 2002, about 20 million ash trees have died.

Read full release HERE to know what you can do to help alleviate the situation. If you believe you have spotted a borer, please call Jim Brown, Community Development Director, at 630-257-1595; or the Morton Arboretum Plant Clinic at 630-719-2424; and/or visit the Morton Arboretum website for more information.
