Full Description:
The 2007 construction season promises to surpass last year’s for the
number and complexity of road projects. As the Tollway interchange
nears completion, work by Cook County is scheduled to begin on 127th
Street between State Street and Smith Road.
The project will mirror
the improvements on the east side of State Street, widening 127th Street to 3 lanes with a turn
lane in either direction and will provide sidewalks to the State Street intersection. During
construction, early June through November, 127th Street will become one-way westbound
from Walter Street to Rolling Meadows Drive. This process is guaranteed to inconvenience
those who have to travel 127th Street, but once it is complete, the benefits will certainly
outweigh the aggravation this summer. The good news is that the bulk of the project will be
completed when school is not in session. We have also received word that the County intends
to re-surface Smith Road this summer.
